Steelpans are very delicate instruments. Anytime they are moved around there is the chance of knocking them out of tune. Don't risk ruining your pan, get a case. When selecting a case, make sure you consider how you are going to use it. Soft cases are great as a "gig bag" type case, but if you are going to be doing heavy traveling or flying you are going to need the protection of a hard case.
